Axemen Stop the Reds Winning Streak at 7-Games

Axemen and Reds split on Saturday after some low scoring baseball in Fredericton. The Axemen are able to break the winning streak of the Reds after winning 7 straight.

UNB Reds beat Acadia Axemen 5-3 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when Alex Rushton singled, scoring two runs.


Acadia Axemen opened the scoring in the third after Jack Barry singled, scoring one run.


UNB Reds took the lead in the bottom of the third. Nick St Pierre singled, scoring two runs, to give UNB Reds the lead, 2-1.


Tyler Croteau doubled, which helped Acadia Axemen tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.


Waylon Matchett began the game for UNB Reds. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Noah Scrimgeour began the game for Acadia Axemen. The right-handed pitcher gave up nine hits and five runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking two.


UNB Reds collected nine hits in the game. St Pierre drove the middle of the lineup, leading UNB Reds with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. St Pierre and Jack Bennett each collected two hits for UNB Reds. UNB Reds turned one double play in the game. UNB Reds were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Iain Warr made the most plays with seven.


Croteau led Acadia Axemen with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The left fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Barry went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Acadia Axemen in hits. Acadia Axemen turned two double plays in the game.

Both teams were strong on the mound on Saturday, but Acadia Axemen defeated UNB Reds 3-2. Jacobie Ford started the game for Acadia Axemen and recorded three outs.


UNB Reds opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. UNB Reds first got on the board when Cam Weatherbee singled, scoring one run.


Acadia Axemen tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a ground out by Myles Wall, and a passed ball.


Acadia Axemen took the lead in the top of the fourth. Seth Routledge singled, scoring one run, to give Acadia Axemen the edge, 3-2.


Patrick Dobbin earned the win for Acadia Axemen. The pitcher allowed four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Ryan Galbraith took the loss for UNB Reds. The righty went six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking one. Ford started on the bump for Acadia Axemen. The starter surrendered five hits and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.


Ben Cairns led Acadia Axemen with three hits in three at bats. Routledge and M. Wall each drove in one run for Acadia Axemen. Austin Wall collected two hits for Acadia Axemen in three at bats. Acadia Axemen were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Routledge made the most plays with eight.


UNB Reds piled up nine hits in the game. Iain Warr and Weatherbee were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for UNB Reds. Nick St Pierre led UNB Reds with two hits in three at bats. UNB Reds turned one double play in the game.


Acadia Axemen play at home on Sunday against DAL Tigers in their next game.
