Huskies and Axemen Split Sunday Doubleheader


Game 1:  SMU 8 ACA 0

Game 2:  SMU 2 ACA 11


The Axemen played host at Memorial Park on Sunday and traded wins with the Huskies.

Kyle Sampson collected four hits in five at bats, as SMU Huskies defeated Acadia Axemen 8-0 on Sunday at Memorial Park, Kentville NS. Sampson doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.


A single by Justin Blanchard on an 0-2 count put SMU Huskies on the board in the top of the first.


SMU Huskies added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Blanchard doubled, scoring two runs, and Saturo Inoue induced Camilo Riesgo to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.


Lucas Taylor started the game for SMU Huskies. The righty surrendered four hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Inoue stepped on the mound first for Acadia Axemen. The righty gave up six hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one and walking two.


SMU Huskies tallied 14 hits in the game. Blanchard provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led SMU Huskies with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. Brock Townsend, Taylor, and Adam Woodman each collected multiple hits for SMU Huskies. Sampson stole two bases. SMU Huskies stole three bases in the game. SMU Huskies turned one double play in the game.


Austin Wall, Chris McCarthy, Jacobie Ford, and Jack Barry each collected one hit for Acadia Axemen.

Austin Wall collected four hits in four at bats, as Acadia Axemen defeated SMU Huskies 11-2 on Sunday at Memorial Park, Kentville NS. Wall singled in the fifth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning.


Acadia Axemen were the first to get on the board in the second when Tyler Croteau drew a walk, scoring one run.


Acadia Axemen scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wall singled, scoring two runs, Brady Cox drew a walk, scoring one run, and Ben Cairns singled, scoring two runs.


Jacobie Ford earned the win for Acadia Axemen. The pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Camilo Riesgo took the loss for SMU Huskies. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on five hits, striking out two and walking six. Patrick Dobbin threw one inning of scoreless ball for Acadia Axemen in relief. The righty gave up one hit, striking out two and walking one.


Acadia Axemen collected nine hits in the game. Acadia Axemen had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 12 walks for the game. Seth Routledge, Cox, Myles Wall, Isaiah Shulte-Bates, and Ford led the team with two walks each. Wall stole two bases. Acadia Axemen ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Acadia Axemen were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jack Barry had the most chances in the field with six.


Justin Blanchard and Kyle Sampson each collected two hits for SMU Huskies. Blanchard and Cameron Brown each drove in one run for SMU Huskies.
