Huskies Bats Help in First Half of 4-Game Series Against X-Men

The Huskies were able to seal the deal in game two to take two games against the X-Men. Offensive performances are highlighted with Raftus and Richards of SMU recording a HR each on the day.

Both teams were strong on the hill on Sunday, but SMU Huskies defeated STFX X-Men 3-2. Lucas Taylor started the game for SMU Huskies and recorded 21 outs.


A solo home run to left field by Logan Raftus put SMU Huskies on the board in the bottom of the first.


SMU Huskies added one run in the second after STFX X-Men committed an error.


Taylor earned the win for SMU Huskies. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Lochlan Kearns took the loss for STFX X-Men. The pitcher went six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking two.


Brock Townsend, Raftus, and Ethan Richards each collected one hit for SMU Huskies. Raftus and Richards each drove in one run for SMU Huskies. SMU Huskies turned two double plays in the game.


Blake Cooper, Ryan MacDonald, and Ryder Penny each collected one hit for STFX X-Men.

SMU Huskies scored six runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat STFX X-Men 9-2 on Sunday. Brock Townsend singled, scoring one run, Ethan Richards singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Lucas Taylor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Kyle Sampson grounded out, scoring one run.


SMU Huskies added one run in the second after SMU Huskies scored on a wild pitch.


SMU Huskies added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on three hits. Richards hit a solo home run to right field, and Sampson singled, scoring one run.


Sampson earned the win for SMU Huskies. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Aidan Myette took the loss for STFX X-Men. The pitcher went one inning, giving up seven runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking two. Townsend started on the mound for SMU Huskies. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking seven.


Richards led SMU Huskies with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Townsend stole two bases. SMU Huskies ran wild on the base paths, accumulating three stolen bases for the game.


STFX X-Men amassed 10 hits in the game. STFX X-Men's Luke Sampson, the number eight hitter, led STFX X-Men with two hits in three at bats. Evan Whyte and Kyle Moore each drove in one run for STFX X-Men. Ryder Penny paced STFX X-Men with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. STFX X-Men turned one double play in the game.


SMU Huskies will travel to STFX X-Men for their next games on Monday.
