Dalhousie collects another win on the season after a high-scoring affair with their intracity rival.
Game 1 Recap, Provided by GameChanger: Aidan Rittenberg drove in five runs on two hits to lead DAL Tigers past SMU Huskies 14-12 on Wednesday. Rittenberg singled in the second scoring two, singled in the sixth scoring two, and walked in the fifth scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as DAL Tigers collected 13 hits and SMU Huskies 13 in the high-scoring affair.
SMU Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Logan Raftus singled, scoring one run, Justin Blanchard singled, scoring one run, and Camilo Riesgo grounded out, scoring two runs.
DAL Tigers tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a walk by Van Manoukian, a single by Rittenberg, and a walk by Jack Randall.
SMU Huskies flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a dropped third strike that drove in two.
SMU Huskies extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Blanchard and Riesgo.
DAL Tigers flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 12-11. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to right field by Jordan Rovet that drove in four.
Riesgo walked, which helped SMU Huskies tie the game at 12 in the bottom of the fifth.
DAL Tigers took the lead in the top of the sixth. Rittenberg singled, scoring two runs, to give DAL Tigers the edge, 14-12. AJ Tait led things off on the mound for DAL Tigers. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and nine runs (six earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. Brock Townsend led things off on the bump for SMU Huskies. The hurler allowed six hits and seven runs (six earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking four. Nick Murray threw two innings of zero-run ball for DAL Tigers in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
DAL Tigers tallied 13 hits in the game. Murray led DAL Tigers with three hits in five at bats. Ewan Galloway led DAL Tigers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Rittenberg stole three bases. DAL Tigers stole six bases in the game.
SMU Huskies tallied 13 hits in the game. Riesgo went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Raftus went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead SMU Huskies in hits. Townsend and Blanchard each collected multiple hits for SMU Huskies. Raftus stole two bases. SMU Huskies ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. DAL Tigers will travel to STFX X-Men for their next game on Saturday.
